Montreal wartime fascists

I don't want to rub salt in the wounds or state the obvious but Montrealers who decided to join up the Kraut cause and become a Nazi during WWII were probably not making the wisest decision. I'm not sure if these are Italian or German fascists but they were stomping around at 4040 St. Antoine, where they had a thing going for a while. I hope that kept a straight arm salute for their wives who knew how to wash those black uniforms in cold water because keeping a uniform like that spiffy is not an easy thing.

The Maisonneuve Market square in the east end was a popular spot where the fascists gathered to hear speeches.

A wiser decision than enlisting, imo. Then again, there was conscription, so some of these guys might have been forced to fight in that war.

Even in the states the American Nazi party or Fascist party (can't remember which name) in the 1930's packed Madison Square Gardens with rallies - the place was full. film footage must be on youtube now, I saw it in a CBC doc years ago.
