This is a photo of a future high-tech city in Kenya called Konza. It's meant to be Africa's high-tech capital but seems to have a big-time Roger Taillebert influence, at least that's what the stadium on the right suggests. This photo inspired
someone on another site to suggest we simply pack up our Olympic Stadium and send it on over.

If Kenya wants it, by all means let them have it--and they can pay the shipping. ;-)
No way to give it to Kenia! I like the "Big O". It's a landmark. Whatever you say.
The poor ol' Big O (and not the good type of 'O') will never live down it legacy. The design was architecturally brilliant, however, the execution of it construction is the root of the problem. Schockbeton (sp?) the concrete firm had never made concrete before as per what was needed for the specifications. And, all the concrete was supposed to have had a smooth marble like top layer which would have protected the concrete from moisture better, since concrete is porous. This might have prevented some of the rot of the fasteners. The thousands of workers who would clock in for a shift, then leave and work on other projects for their respective companies is where a lot of the wasted money went. Well, and the roof... But many big US concrete stadiums built in the late 60's and early 70's have fallen apart also. And few had any architectural/design elements worth any praise. There is a stadium in Rome (I forget its name) that is in some disrepair but has lasted 2000+ years, perhaps we should ship it over hear and complete it once again.! Robert
What's Swahili for "cost overrun"?
"Juuy ya gharam" is over cost in Swahili, and "ghali sana" is very expensive.
